If you live in the Birmingham area and haven't been involved with Music4Romania, you are missing a handful of stardust.
Back in 2011, a few students at Indian Springs School in Indian Springs, Alabama decided to collect music materials for Romanian orphanages. Their initiative evolved into a project and finally an internationally-active nonprofit based in Birmingham. Today, Music4Romania includes "a community of volunteer musicians and music-lovers who believe in the power of music to inspire and affect the lives of all people".
On November 9th at 3:00 pm, you can attend the Music4Romania fundraiser at The Episcopal Church of Saint Francis in Indian Springs, Alabama and discover the provocations of a mysterious instrument, the bandoneon. For a preview of what to expect, here's the Bandoneon in the skilled hands of Raul Jarena, who stirs the lost tango in me.
More... The Arrhythmia Quartet was founded in 2010. The mission of the ensemble is to perform and promote both standard classical and more unusual repertoire. The ensemble's first tour, during the summer of 2011, included concerts in Chisinau (Moldova), Cluj (Romania), and Sibiu (Romania). Guest artist bandoneonist and Latin Grammy-winner Raul Jaurena joined the quartet in performing tangos from South America.
Please purchase tickets online prior to the event. Children and families of all ages and stages are welcome. By purchasing a ticket prior to the event, you help even if (for some unexpected reason) you decide on the night of the concert that getting dressed and being social is the last thing you'd like to do.
